This series contains correspondence and records from 1957 and 1959-1960 that relate to involvement of the Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELC) in the National Lutheran Council's Department of World Missions Cooperation (DWMC) deployment of missionaries serving in its fields in Tanzania. There is typewritten business correspondence written by the DWMC and the ELC Board of Foreign Missions. Subject matter of this correspondence includes salary information, allowances, salary scales, Social Security payments, and pension fund dues. In addition to correspondence there are records pertaining to personnel policies regarding ELC missionaries deployed to Tanzania. There is a copy of a DWMC memorandum regarding personnel policies sent to American Lutheran churches with missionary personnel deployed in DWMC fields in Tanzania. Also included in this series is a copy of minutes from a DWMC meeting at which personnel policies were established for missionaries working in its fields in Tanzania. This record is a good source of concise information about a program that is not addressed elsewhere in this record group collection. In addition to these records, there are copies of quarterly financial reports for 1957 pertaining to salary information for ELC missionary personnel working in Tanzania under DWMC authority. Reference to Tanzania within this series is represented as Tanganyika. The use of Tanzania within this finding aid reflects use of the name created in 1964 after the merger of Tanganyika and Zanzibar.
